Why do we need tort reform? Easy!
A POS who shot at a cop 20 years and, in turn, got shot by the cop and ended up paralyzed, sued the police department…….and won….$76.4 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!
The judge reduced it to $8.9 million.
He appealed.
Another jury gave him $51 MILLION DOLLARS!!
The judge reduced it to $10.75 million.
He appealed.
The Appeals Court told him that not only would he not get the $76.4 million or the $51 million or the $8.9 million or the $10.75 million but that he owed the court $100 for court costs.
Remember William Jefferson, (Democrat, Louisiana) who was caught with $100,000 in his freezer right after Hurricane Katrina? Corruption is a family affair, I guess.
U.S. Attorney Jim Letten announced this afternoon that 4th District Assessor Betty Jefferson, an elder sister of U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, has been indicted on a host of fraud-related charges by a federal grand jury. Also indicted were Jefferson’s daughter, Angela Coleman, and her brother, the previously indicted Mose Jefferson.
According to Yahoo News, the three relatives of the indicted Congressman
were charged via a 31 count-indictment by a federal grand jury today with conspiracy to commit mail fraud; federal program fraud; aggravated identity theft; substantive program fraud; mail fraud; and conspiracy to commit money laundering, announced U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana Jim Letten.
Three boys, going to their graduation ceremony, ended up not only barred from the ceremony but EXPELLED!
Their crime? Having a Confederate flag in their vehicles!!!
Even more ridiculously, the kids weren’t using the flags in response to any racial situation, nor were they parading the flags around the school. These flags were merely hanging on their autos on the last day of school. The media couldn’t find a single student that thought the three boys meant anything by the flags other than with the intention to decorate their vehicles with them.
