National Geographic used to be a pretty credible magazine but now it has now gone totally moonbat eco-zombie:
Here’s the headline: “Giant Redwoods MAY dry out; warming to blame?” (emphasis mine)
This is hot on the heels of that Brit paper whose headlines touted lack of fog as being caused by global warming when a couple of years ago another paper said too much fog was caused by global warming. Go here to read about it.
Declining fog cover on California’s coast could leave the state’s famous redwoods high and dry, a new study says.
Among the tallest and longest-lived trees on Earth, redwoods depend on summertime’s moisture-rich fog to replenish their water reserves.
But climate change may be reducing this crucial fog cover. Though still poorly understood, climate change may be contributing to a decline in a high-pressure climatic system that usually “pinches itself” against the coast, creating fog, said study co-author James Johnstone, an environmental scientist at the University of California, Berkeley.
For the new study, scientists measured the cloud ceiling—the height of the lowest level of Earth’s cloud layer—at two area airports, as well as examined a long-term record of daily maximum temperatures in the region. The research revealed that fog was 33 percent more common a century ago than it is today.
Because redwoods are limited to a narrow, humid band along California’s coastline, the trees aren’t adapted to long, dry spells, which could kill them, scientists say.

Then the twig eatin’, tofu fartin’, lily livered, Prius driving, America-hating, bleeding heart liberal, blinkered, Starbucks drinking, elitist, can’t-we-all-just-get-along, granola eating, namby-pamby, Birkenstock wearing, tree hugging, long haired, pansy-assed, kumbaya-singing, Earth First, bed-wetting, patchouli wearing, dirty, smelly, dope smoking, bongo playing, arm pit haired women and feminized, armpit shaved men crying “Mother Earth is Gaia,” tortured “artiste” types at Nat Geo wrote this: “More mega-snowstorms to come; global warming to blame?”
Cyclical patterns of heating and cooling—as opposed to long-term global warming—could herald a coming period of harsher U.S. winters, Bastardi told National Geographic News.
“We know that Earth’s cycles are changing,” he said. “The Pacific is cooling. The Atlantic will join it in several years. When you get an El Niño with a cold Pacific, you get crazy winters in the East.”
Still, other scientists say global warming is the main culprit behind this month’s eastern-U.S. snowstorms—and it could cause more heavy snowfalls in future winters.
Attributing snowstorms to warmer weather seems contradictory, but climate scientist Amanda Staudt says relatively warmer weather causes more water to be evaporated from the oceans and thus creates more moisture for winter storms, as long as temperatures remain below freezing.
As for Snowpolaclypse, said Staudt of the National Wildlife Federation in Reston, Virginia, “It’s hard to determine global warming’s effect on any particular storm, but it’s highly unusual to have these really large winter storms in one winter.”
What a bunch of fucking idiots!

Damn. Another entry on my list of things to never watch, read, buy, look at, or think about ever again.
